I've benefited from freesound in the past so i wanted to give something back. I created this audio sample of the black speech of mordor (a section of the ring poem), as part of a cinematic orchestral lord of the rings piece to add flavour to it and wondered if others might find a use for it in their own projects. The sample does have added reverb but to my ears this is not excessive. The phrase is:-. Ash nazg durbatulûk,ash nazg gimbatul,ash nazg thrakatulûkagh burzum-ishi krimpatul. This translates to:-. One ring to to rule them allone ring to find themone ring to bring them alland in the darkness bind them. No attribution required but it would be nice to know if anybody uses it. ;-).

This is a single guitar string plucked with a pick directly at the headstock, that means between the tuners and the nut. There the string is very short and tight, resulting in a high, almost piano-like tone. Also, since there is no sound box, the tone is rather quiet. I used this for a sampler and i liked the sound of it. This is the raw recording. If you want to use it in a sampler too, i recommend adding some eq, reverb and maybe some delay. It is not perfectly in tune though, the closest note is a#. You might tweak the tuning a little bit when using it in combination with other tuned instruments. 50 claps made in blok modular from scratch. Supposed to sound very unrealistic/dry/drum machine-like as possible so you don't have to sample the real thing. Some of these use asymmetric waveshaping which adds dc offset (0 hz noise) so you may want to highpass the crustier ones. I would've uploaded a zip of the individual hits but because of the way freesound works you'll have to chop it up yourself.

Three quick samples of the gear one mk1000 on kick (+ a single audio technica at2020 overhead on the rest of the kit). Recorded straight into a tascam us-1800 in a lousy room with a less-than-optimal 22" mapex kick drum. Each quick loop / snippet is 1) presented in mono / processed with compression and some eq (mostly a 6dbish scoop at around 300hz on the mk1000 and 80hz rolloff on the 2020 with about 5db less on the mk1000 than the 2020), then 2) presented exactly as recorded / no processing at all save normalization, mk1000 panned hard left channel, at2020 panned hard right. The first two samples are the mk1000 in the resonant head cutout, the third is the mk1000 positioned about 4" from the head and just about 2" from dead center of the drum.

(*1) the cymbals tend to sound weird when you change the pitch (in my opinion) so all other samples don't use them. (*2) col legno is when the strings are hit with the wooden back of the bow. These are very dry samples with no additional reverb or any other processing.

In this series, low ends are made with zynaddsubfx and top end are processed samples of me hitting various objects used audacity and renoise to stack them.
